Elementary News

State testing will be coming up soon. One of the things students often struggle with is computer skills. Lucky for you, you have a lot of practice on the computer, but how are your typing skills? We often get complacent, or lazy and use informal text (not capitalizing, abbreviating, using acronyms) in our daily lives, but on State testing, we need to use formal text. Use typing.com to help with typing fluency and speed, but don’t forget to practice using proper English as well…punctuation, capitalization, & grammar. Get in the habit of using proper text in all of your school work.

Mr. Kast

Student success in this 3rd quarter in all science courses has been good.  I have seen a big improvement in students keeping on pace with their work.  There were some slight adjustments that were made to students’ assignments this semester in all science assignments that appear to be working very well.  It is vitally important that all students do these 3 things before beginning their work each day:

  1. Read your homeroom teacher’s morning announcements.
  2. Read Dr. Esposito’s morning announcements.
  3. Read your emails, paying close attention to emails from your teachers.

Other keys to success include:

  1. Having a workspace to do schoolwork away from distractions, especially the phone!
  2. Setting a weekly and daily work schedule for schoolwork.
  3. Having a daily routine and time to do schoolwork.

I have an open-door policy for students that need help and require that my students come for help when needed.  I have an open-door policy and will help students at any time during the school day or will schedule tutoring times with them if I am not readily available at the moment.  It has been great to see the progress so many students are making.  Enjoy this month!

High School News

Senior Class Corner

Our Senior class is going strong. There are many of our Seniors that are presently taking college classes at both Barstow and Victor Valley community colleges. Academically we have seen a marked improvement in writing and math skills as Mrs.Gjerde and Mrs. Ratajesak work with our graduates as they are ready to step out into the real world and take their place as the next generation of dreamers, builders, and leaders. We have a few Seniors that are preparing to join the military upon graduation. We are working closely with our Seniors in helping them with their ”Post Graduation Plans” as they prepare to transition into the real world of work and adulthood.

As we near the completion of Senior’s last high school semester, many of them are already stepping out into the real world as they gain employment, take college classes, and assume adult responsibilities; they deserve a big SHOUT OUT!

Many of our seniors have been with ICA since middle school, so it has been a real pleasure, and sometimes a real challenge to get to where they are now. We still have a lot of hard work to do, but together we will get there. We look forward to the last part of our shared journey as we get them across the graduation finish line.

Mr. Erb’s Musings

March is an interesting time of the year.  There are no holidays in March this year which gives us 23 straight days of academic instruction!  This may seem like a difficult task, but the whole ICA team is here to help you through.  The great news is that after the long stretch without a break, we get to celebrate Spring Break!  This is the month to hunker down and work like you have never worked before.  As I often tell my students, “It is time to MARCH through the long stretches so we can enjoy the well-earned REST.”  You have done so much to get to this point in the year.  Don’t give up now!  Keep MARCHing into this month with the same passion and persistence that you have demonstrated thus far.  The whole team at ICA is so proud of what you have accomplished and we are looking forward to watching you MARCH through MARCH!
