Senior Class Corner by Mr. Maldonado

As ICA Seniors progress through our newly created Seniors Seminar course, which was put together by our staff to better prepare them for their transition to the adult and working worlds, we are seeing our Seniors step up to the challenge of making decisions about their immediate future “after graduation.” The class, “Senior Seminar,” is made up of a combination of  Life and Financial Awareness Skills  that we want our graduates to know prior to them graduating and leaving our school. The primary instructors for the Senior Seminar class will be Mr. Josh Behnke (JBehnke@helendalesd.com) and Mr. R. Maldonado (rmaldonado@helendalesd.com).

Further information will follow in the coming days.

Freshman News

This past month we have taken two field trips.  Our first trip took us to the Barstow Train Station, where we visited the NASA Goldstone Visitors Center, the Route 66 Museum, Western Railroad Museum and the Harvey House.  On our second trip we went to Phelan to visit the Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary.  Thank you to those students who signed up to go.  I will be scheduling a field trip each month through the rest of the year.  Email me for more information.

It is always a good feeling when I see that my students are putting the time in on their work and learning.  The start of this semester has been very good and I have seen an increase in students staying on pace and an overall increase in grades.  Continue to encourage your student(s) in their daily work and performance.

I have always been a sports fan and love to see students get involved.  Remember that your student can try out for the athletic teams at ACE and RMS.  This spring will be soccer for middle school and baseball, softball and boys golf for high school.  Contact me for more information if your student is interested in playing.
