The school year is certainly moving fast as we are already in the month of October. We hope all our families are going well and your children reach their academic goals here at Independence Charter Academy. We have a busy month ahead of us for our first quarter grading period will close on Friday, October 7th. Our teachers will be contacting our students and parents to set up parent-teacher conference meetings so they can hand out report cards and talk about student progress. We will not send report cards home via US mail, we will be handing them out at our parent-teacher conferences.
Also, our Fall Break will be October 10-October 14, 2022.
Here is the best way for students to earn exceptional grades at ICA:
CHECK your Helendale email daily,
CHECK your Edmentum messages.
LOG INTO EACH CLASS EVERY DAY AND COMPLETE ONE ACTIVITY
DO NOT SKIP TUTORIALS or your instructors will fail you for that lesson;
DO NOT SKIP Unit Activities they are worth 10% of your final grade, try your best and talk to your teacher if you need help.
FILL OUT YOUR PE LOG DAILY
Be sure to check and see if your ICONS are Green, if they are in red you are behind and are in danger of failing the class and will not be able to compete in activities.
Virtual field trip
Check in with your Homeroom Teacher every day:
Grades TK-5 – Log into each of your classes and Learning Paths every day and check in with Mrs. Lagergren daily for your meeting times. Also, you should complete one Progress Check each week in ELA; Math; and Reading

We are nearing the end of the 1st quarter which of course means parents will be receiving quarter progress reports(via report cards). The quarter grades do not go on a student’s transcript but update parents, the amount of work your student has completed as well as the grade they have earned in each class halfway through the semester.
The semester grade or the one you will receive shortly following Winter break will be entered into a student’s transcript. The transcript shows the progress a student is making toward graduation. Generally speaking, each student should have completed the following amount of credits to be on track to graduate by the end of their senior (12th grade) year.
By the end of 9th grade, a student should have earned a minimum of 60 credits.
By the end of 10th grade, a student should have earned a minimum of 120 credits.
By the end of 11th grade, a student should have earned a minimum of 180 credits.
By the end of 12th grade, a student will need to have earned 220 credits to graduate.
Therefore by the end of the 1st quarter, a student should have completed 50% or half of each class they are assigned.
When you review their Edmentum progress at this time you will view progress which looks like this; the course grade also shows progress at this point. For instance, in this example
The current grade reflects the grade average on the work which has been submitted thus far. 10/37 (27%) indicates the amount of work completed thus far:
